To make a day of it

Château de Bord-Peschin stands in Doyet (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At Doyet, in the Allier department, the château de Bord-Peschin stands with its two wings enclosing a square courtyard ringed by moats, set apart from the village above the Œil valley. A stone bridge has replaced the former drawbridge that once crossed the moat, and a gatehouse tower still divides the two parts of the fortified complex. Visitors can make out the rectangular tower reached by an outdoor stairway, the monumental fireplaces of the living quarters, and the large square tower whose vaulted second-floor room carries ribs carved with small figures. Once the seat of an extensive seigneury, the building remains a notable example of 15th and 16th century military architecture.
