To make a day of it

Château de Baraigne stands in Baraigne (Aude), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century, 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Baraigne castle stands in the Lauragais region of the Aude, built mainly in the late 16th century by the de Buisson family on earlier foundations. Its U-shaped layout around an inner courtyard, its round towers at the southern corners and the angled square tower to the northwest reflect an architecture still shaped by defensive concerns. Particularly notable is the machicolated gallery protecting the entrance, carried on stone brackets and pierced with small firing openings, along with the triangular-pedimented doorway flanked by fluted pilasters.
