What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château d'Espalungue se trouve à l'écart de Laruns, en face du quartier de Pon, sur la rive droite du gave d'Ossau. La première mention d'un seigneur d'Espalungue remonte au milieu du XIIe siècle, mais le plan et la maçonnerie du noyau du château sont plutôt à attribuer au XIIIe siècle. Autour de ce noyau, des constructions du XVIIe sont venues chemiser la salle et la tour médiévale, modifiant son contour et ses baies. Le logis rectangulaire est cantonné par une petite tour carrée à son angle nord et une autre tour abritant un escalier en vis, à l'angle sud-ouest. La chapelle fut consacrée en 1694. L'intérieur conserve une cheminée Renaissance ainsi que d'intéressants lambris en noyer et des toiles peintes.
