What the French Ministry of Culture records

Créé sans doute au moins dès le 11e siècle, le village était un point stratégique sur le passage entre le Gave et les contreforts rocheux à rive gauche. Les vestiges subsistants attestent du souci de défense. Dans le dénombrement réalisé en 1385 à la demande du vicomte Gaston III de Foix, le fief comptait parmi les huit "domenjadures" (terres nobles possédant une maison noble non fortifiée). L'édifice comprend un grand corps central. A l'ouest est accolée une tour rectangulaire qui semble plus récente et dont la partie ouest est protégée par une sorte d'auvent en ardoise. A l'est est plaqué un autre corps de logis qui semble avoir été surbaissé et dont la galerie domine la route. La partie centrale conserve des fenêtres à meneaux.
