Le portail n'est pas à son emplacement d'origine. Il viendrait d'un édifice de Poitiers, détruit au 19e siècle, peut-être l'ancienne église des Augustins, sculpté par les frères Girouard, sculpteurs poitevins célèbres au 17e siècle. Des statues ou trophées devaient surmonter l'entablement. Le château sur lequel ouvre ce portail date du 19e siècle.
