Standing above the Allier river, this priory-castle began as an 11th-century stronghold before passing, in the 14th century, to the Benedictine abbey of Chazes. Its inner courtyard, enclosed by stone-built ramparts, still holds scattered architectural remains, while the river-facing wall shows a semicircular tower pierced with arrow-slits. Inside, a 15th-century spiral staircase tower opens through a doorway carved with a projecting lintel and heraldic shields, leading to a vaulted ceiling where traces of old murals remain visible.
