Château de Saint-Vidal stands in Saint-Vidal (Haute-Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 14th century, 16th century). Adult admission costs 11 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Saint-Vidal castle stands in the Borne valley, a few kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay, built on the remains of a stronghold dating from before the 13th century. Its present appearance owes much to Antoine II de La Tour Saint-Vidal, who turned the residence into a fortress designed to withstand artillery during the Wars of Religion. Visitors find a massive quadrangular building around a courtyard, flanked by round towers and a residential keep added in the 16th century. It remains one of the best-preserved fortresses of the former Velay region.
