On the heights above Siaugues-Sainte-Marie, in the Haute-Loire, the ruins of the château de Saint-Romain have overlooked the village since the Middle Ages. The site retains a keep, a tower and the remains of a stair turret, the last traces of a stronghold built mostly in the 14th century. Fragments of wall paintings can still be seen inside the keep, along with the terraces and two towers of the former outer enclosure.
