To make a day of it

Château du Chambon stands in Cerzat (Haute-Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set in the Haut-Allier valley near the hamlet of Chambon, this 15th century fortified house retains its simple layout with a corner tower and a stair turret. Built in 1409 by Guillaume de Blau, the building passed through centuries of alterations, gaining 19th century interior woodwork and carved fireplaces along the way. Its sober façades, partly left in rough stone, enclose a stone spiral staircase and carved 16th century doors.
