Manoir de Mézedern stands in Plougonven (Finistère), in the Bretagne region of France. At Plougonven, the Mézedern manor spreads its 15th, 16th and 18th century buildings around a closed courtyard, in a layout rarely found in Brittany, where a gatehouse wing replaces the usual perimeter wall pierced by a single gate. Visitors enter through a double portal topped by a coat of arms dated 1553, next to a hexagonal tower pierced with arrow slits, a reminder of the site's former defensive role. From the 15th to the 18th century the estate belonged to the Le Lagadec family, one of whose members, Jehan Lagadec, a priest and scholar, wrote the Catholicon, the first printed trilingual dictionary, which local tradition links to this house. A 17th century chapel stands a little apart, outside the main quadrangle of buildings.
