To make a day of it

Stadionsches Schloss stands in Bönnigheim (Landkreis Ludwigsburg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Stadionsches Schloss stands at the heart of Bönnigheim, at the end of the main street in the Liebenstein quarter. Built in 1753 for Count Anton Heinrich Friedrich von Stadion, the single-wing building draws on French late Baroque models, a style rarely seen in the old Württemberg region. Inside, stucco decoration attributed to the workshop of the Mainz court stuccoist Johann Peter Jäger survives, most notably in the great hall. The grounds also include a former washhouse now housing a museum dedicated to Sophie La Roche, and a former forestry prison converted into a wine cellar.

What to know

  • The palace is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany.
  • The art museum that long occupied the main building left the site in 2020.
  • The Sophie La Roche museum, in the former washhouse, and the wine cellar, in the former forestry prison, are visited separately from the main building.
  • No opening hours, admission fees or access conditions are confirmed, so visitors should check locally before coming.
