To make a day of it
Burg Schaubeck stands in Kleinbottwar (Landkreis Ludwigsburg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Schaubeck rises above the Bottwar valley at Kleinbottwar, in the Landkreis Ludwigsburg, in Baden-Württemberg. First recorded in 1272, it began as a fortified stronghold protected by ditches before being converted around 1620 into a residential house once advances in firearms made its defensive features unnecessary. The facades still show Renaissance and later Baroque touches, including painted decoration added between 1749 and 1765. Since 1914 it has belonged to the Adelmann family, who now run a wine estate on the grounds.
What to know
- The site is now home to the Weingut Graf Adelmann wine estate, and visitor activity centres mainly on wine tasting and sales rather than guided tours of the building.
- The Burg overlooks the Bottwar valley at the edge of Kleinbottwar, and the old defensive ditches that once surrounded it are still traceable in the ground.
- The Renaissance and Baroque facades, along with the inner courtyard, can be seen from the lane running along the garden wall.
- The property remains privately owned, held by the same family since 1914.
