To make a day of it
Schloss Wackerstein stands in Pförring (Landkreis Eichstätt), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Wackerstein stands on a steep rocky bluff above the Danube, in the village of Wackerstein, part of the municipality of Pförring. Its origins go back to a 9th century stronghold, first recorded in 1206 under the name of a local nobleman connected to the Eichstätt cathedral chapter. The present L-shaped, two-wing building dates largely from a rebuilding around 1780 under Ferdinand Anton von Wadenspan, after the medieval fortress had been devastated by Swedish and imperial troops during the Thirty Years' War. The surrounding walls, a defensive tower and a deconsecrated medieval chapel, altered in 1781, still survive.
