Burg Vohburg overlooks the town of Vohburg an der Donau from a rocky outcrop above the Danube. Of the medieval stronghold once held by the counts and later the Wittelsbach dukes, only the surrounding wall, restored and partly rebuilt in the 1980s, and an imposing gatehouse still survive. The site, inhabited as early as the Bronze Age, hosted the 1246 wedding of Conrad IV of Hohenstaufen to Elisabeth of Wittelsbach, before being destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War.
