To make a day of it

Schloss Kleinziegenfeld stands in Weismain (Landkreis Lichtenfels), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

What is known today as Schloss Kleinziegenfeld is not the original castle, which vanished around 1800, but the Jägerhaus that once belonged to it, built in 1571 and still standing intact. The old fortified castle stood a short distance to the east, a four-winged building with a rectangular courtyard and four round corner towers, of which only a wall fragment roughly two metres high remains. The Jägerhaus, extended in the 18th century with an eastern wing, now serves as a private home, lived in since 1990 by the family of a stone sculptor.

What to know

  • The building seen today is the 1571 Jägerhaus, not the medieval castle, which disappeared around 1800.
  • It is a privately occupied residence and cannot be visited inside.
  • A small wall fragment nearby is all that remains of the former castle.
  • No opening hours, fees, or access details are published for this site.
