The Burgruine Krögelstein stands above the village bearing its name, perched on a rocky spur characteristic of Franconian Switzerland, overlooking the Kaiserbach valley. All that remains of the medieval stronghold is a stone arch with three slit windows, the last trace of a castle destroyed in 1523. The former castle chapel, turned parish church as early as 1421, still stands nearby and holds the coat of arms and epitaph of the von Giech family.
