Schloss Fantaisie stands in Eckersdorf, in the Landkreis Bayreuth, Bavaria, set within a landscaped park that blends rocaille, romantic sensibility and historicist taste. Built as a summer residence for Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and his wife Wilhelmine following their travels in Italy, it was completed by their daughter Friederike, who gave the palace its name. Extensive later alterations left little of the original structure, but the palace now houses a museum devoted to the art of garden design, including a replica of the inlaid Spindler-Kabinett. The surrounding park, restored to its earlier appearance, still features vine-planted terraces, a labyrinth and cascades adorned with sculpture.
