Ordensschloss St. Georgen stands in Bayreuth (Bayreuth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

This Schloss stands in the Sankt Georgen district of Bayreuth, within an urban layout originally laid out in strict baroque symmetry. Built as the meeting place for the knights of the Order of Sincerity founded by Georg Wilhelm of Hohenzollern, it went through two successive building phases, the first, largely timber, structure having deteriorated quickly. Rebuilt in stone and completed in 1727, it long served as a pleasure residence and the setting for grand margravial festivities, later becoming a warehouse, granary and military hospital.

What to know

  • The carefully restored order hall can only be visited in exceptional circumstances.
  • Nothing remains of the nearby Brandenburger Weiher pond, once used for staged naval spectacles, apart from traces in the street layout.
  • The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in Bavaria.
