To make a day of it

Neues Schloss Bayreuth stands in Bayreuth (Bayreuth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 7 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Neues Schloss stands within the historic Eremitage park east of Sankt Johannis, a district of Bayreuth. Built between 1749 and 1753 originally as an orangery before being converted into a residence, it consists of a round central pavilion crowned by a dome, known as the Sun Temple, flanked by two curved, unconnected arcaded wings. Its most distinctive feature is the facade, covered in a mosaic of quartz crystals, carnelian stones and coloured glass slag that catches the sunlight. Largely destroyed by bombing in April 1945, the building was rebuilt only on the outside, without reconstructing its original interiors.
