The Burgstall auf dem Heideknock marks the remains of a medieval fortification set on a rocky spur above the Kleinziegenfelder Tal valley in Upper Franconia. The site is believed to correspond to Burg Leuchnitz, the ancestral seat of the noble Leuchnitz family, first recorded in 1118. Before the medieval stronghold existed, the promontory already carried a Celtic rampart, and a nearby cave has yielded finds dating back to the Urnfield culture. Visitors can still trace a layered system of ditches and earthworks cut into the rock, which once formed the approach and defences of the site.
