Schloss Kaufungen stands in Limbach-Oberfrohna (Landkreis Zwickau), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Kaufungen stands at the centre of the Kaufungen hamlet, part of Limbach-Oberfrohna, just behind St Gallus church. The present two-winged manor house, with its round corner stair tower, replaced a medieval stronghold torn down after the execution of its owner Kunz von Kauffungen, who had orchestrated the 1455 abduction of the Altenburg princes. The east wing dates from 1595 and shows plain Renaissance forms, while the north wing, built in 1610, carries a tracery frieze added around 1800. A facade restoration in the mid-2000s brought both periods back into view.
