To make a day of it

Ruine Zinnberg stands in Penig (Landkreis Mittelsachsen), in Saxony, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Ruine Zinnberg stands on a wooded spur above the eastern bank of the Zwickauer Mulde, just south of Penig in Saxony. What remains, a stump of a keep nearly five metres high and fragments of the curtain wall, belonged to a fortress raised around 1170 to secure land newly won from Slavic settlers. It served for generations as the seat of the Burgraves of Altenburg before passing to the Burgraves of Leisnig, and had already fallen into decay by the 15th century. A local legend, the tale of the Liebchenstein, tells of its downfall.
