To make a day of it

Schloss Homburg stands in Nümbrecht (Oberbergischer Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Adult admission costs 6 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Homburg overlooks Nümbrecht from a site inhabited since the Middle Ages, where excavations uncovered the remains of an earlier stone keep. First recorded in 1276, the stronghold was reshaped into a residence from 1635 onward by Count Ernst von Sayn-Wittgenstein-Homburg, giving it much of its current form. After long periods of neglect, the building now houses the museum of the Oberbergischer Kreis. Around the castle stand older outbuildings, including a mill, a sawmill and a bakehouse, alongside a nature trail through the surrounding woodland.
