Denklingen Castle stands in the district that bears its name, within Reichshof in North Rhine-Westphalia. Originally a moated stronghold, it took its present shape between the 16th and 18th centuries, on a site already recorded as a castle in the 14th century under the dukes of Berg. For a long period the building served as the administrative seat of the Windeck district, and it underwent restoration that was completed in the late 20th century. Visitors can see the two-storey gatehouse reworked in 1698, which once held a stone-vaulted cell on either side.
