To make a day of it

Burg Schnellenberg stands in Attendorn (Kreis Olpe), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Schnellenberg overlooks the Bigge valley close to Attendorn, in the Olpe district. Founded in 1222 on the orders of the Archbishop of Cologne to protect the young town and guard the trade route known as the Heidenstraße, it changed hands among several feudal lords before the von Fürstenberg family acquired it in 1594. Under that family, which still owns the castle today, the building was reshaped into a Renaissance-style residence. Traces of both its medieval origins and later remodelling remain visible.
