The Waldenburg is the ruined hilltop castle overlooking the Biggetalsperre reservoir, near Attendorn in the Sauerland region. Built no later than the 10th century, it is considered the oldest known structure in the Kreis Olpe and the historic origin of local self-government in the area. Only fragments of the stronghold remain, set on a rocky spur once defended by three successive ditches. The site now lies within a protected nature reserve, where the earthworks and building traces still convey the scale of the former fortress.
