To make a day of it
Schloss Gimborn stands in Marienheide (Oberbergischer Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Gimborn stands in a secluded valley of the upper Leppe river, in Marienheide, North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite being remembered as a former moated castle, its surrounding ditch was never fed by a stream and merely kept the lower floors dry. Only fragments of the original keep and enclosure wall remain, absorbed into later building phases. Since 1969 the site has served as a conference and meeting venue for the International Police Association, opening to the public only once a year for the Saint Sebastian shooting brotherhood's festival.

What to know
- The castle is not open to the public on a regular basis, except during the annual Saint Sebastian brotherhood festival.
- The site now functions as a conference venue for the International Police Association, which limits ordinary access.
- No visiting hours or admission fees are available.
- Despite its surrounding ditch, the building never actually functioned as a true water-fed moated castle.
- Little remains visible of the original 13th-century fortress, as most of today's structure dates from later building phases.
