Burg Vischering stands in Lüdinghausen (Kreis Coesfeld), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Vischering Castle rises on two sandy islands within an arm of the River Stever, on the edge of Lüdinghausen. Founded around 1271 by the Bishop of Münster to keep the rebellious lords of Lüdinghausen in check, it became the ancestral seat of the Droste zu Vischering family, who still own it today. A fire in 1521 destroyed most of the medieval structure, which was rebuilt over the following decades in Renaissance style, giving the fortress its present look, at once defensive and pierced with windows. A museum on the Münsterland region is now housed within its walls.
