To make a day of it

Burg Patzlar stands in Lüdinghausen (Kreis Coesfeld), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Patzlar once stood on the banks of the river Stever, at the southeastern edge of Lüdinghausen, but no structure has survived above ground. Founded in the 13th century by the lords of Patzlar, ministerials of the Bishopric of Münster, it became a territorial stronghold contested between the bishop and the counts of the Marck. Destroyed and later rebuilt, it lost its significance from the 15th century onward and its stones were gradually taken for other buildings. What remains today is a matter for archaeology: excavations in 2009 uncovered traces of a moat, a filled-in well and a wall belonging to the former outer bailey.
