To make a day of it
Burgruine Herrenbröl stands in Ruppichteroth (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burgruine Herrenbröl is a modest ruined stronghold set in the valley of the Waldbrölbach stream, between the villages of Ruppichteroth and Schönenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. A fortified seat may have stood here as early as the 13th century, though the site is first documented in writing in 1417, and the surviving tower is thought to date from the 15th century, a period linked to the von Scheidt family. What remains today is a stump of tower roughly seven metres high, a stretch of enclosure wall some twenty metres long, a rubble-stone vaulted cellar and scattered foundations. Never of military or political weight, the stronghold is believed to have been destroyed by French troops in the early 19th century.
