Schloss Cotta stands in Dohma, on the edge of Saxon Switzerland, on land tied to an estate founded around the year 1000 by the burgraves of Dohna. Its present appearance, with turrets, ornamented gables and balconies, dates from a Neo-Renaissance remodelling carried out in 1895, following an earlier classicist reworking in the 1830s. The building passed through several owning families and uses over the centuries, and in 2011 it served as a filming location for the screen adaptation of the novel Der Turm.
