To make a day of it
Ruine Stein (Sachsen) stands in Oelsnitz/Vogtl. (Vogtlandkreis), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Ruine Stein stands on a rocky spur above the Weiße Elster river, now at the edge of the Pirk reservoir, near the hamlet of Planschwitz in Oelsnitz/Vogtl. Built by the Vögte von Plauen family, this medieval stronghold once guarded the southern border of the Vogtland region before losing its military role by the late 15th century. What remains is a core structure some twenty metres across, traces of a round tower, and sections of outer wall, partly submerged by the reservoir's waters. It is a site for those drawn to quiet, unrestored ruins rather than polished castles.
