The Landsburg was a 14th-century hilltop fortress built on a former basalt cone near Michelsberg in Hesse. Nothing of it remains today, as the last traces were removed in 1968 when the local basalt quarry was extended. There are no ruins to visit; the place is now known chiefly through historical records and through an unexpected link to art, since stone from the quarry was used by Joseph Beuys for his work 7000 Eichen.
