Mittelhof Gilsa is a former moated castle at the northern edge of the village of Gilsa, just north of the parish church. It was the ancestral seat of the von und zu Gilsa noble family, built around the mid 15th century as an almost square enclosure with four round corner towers and a drawbridge across the surrounding moat. Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in 1635, it was rebuilt as a manor farm on the old foundations, and today the massive south wing with its gateway, the foundations of the southwest corner tower, and an adjoining half timbered east wing still stand. A late Gothic alliance coat of arms sits above the archway, and the inner courtyard holds two coat of arms stones dated 1684.
