To make a day of it
Frienstein stands in Bad Schandau (Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge), in Saxony, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Frienstein, also known as the Vorderes Raubschloss, is a rock formation some 130 metres high on the northern slope of the Großer Winterberg, within the Affensteine rocks of Saxon Switzerland. Around 1410, the lordship of Wildenstein built a watchtower there as part of a signal chain linking it to neighbouring lookout posts, and by the late 15th century the rock had become a hideout for robber knights. Cut steps and grooves from the old access route still survive, along with traces of a wooden guardhouse on the summit. Today the rock is mainly known as a climbing destination.
