To make a day of it

Burgstall Oberlichtenwald stands in Altenthann (Landkreis Regensburg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burgstall Oberlichtenwald marks the remains of a former hilltop castle, now vanished, which once stood on a narrow ridge between the valleys of the Sulzbach and the Otterbach streams. The outer bailey has been completely built over by the hamlet of Oberlichtenwald, but the upper part of the site still shows traces of ditches and a mound where a keep once stood. What remains visible today is mainly the shape of the terrain, cut by three successive ditches, and a fragment of a corner wall, the last traces of a medieval settlement.
