To make a day of it
Burg Pyrmont stands in Roes (Landkreis Cochem-Zell), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Near Roes in the southern Eifel, a slate outcrop overlooking a waterfall on the Elzbach river carries Pyrmont Castle. The lords of Schönberg founded it late in the 1100s, after which ownership passed to the Eltz family and subsequently to the Waldbott von Bassenheim family, who from 1712 transformed the site into a baroque residence by heightening the main building and adding a grand outdoor staircase. The castle fell into ruin following the French Revolution before architects Hentrich and Petschnigg undertook its restoration starting in 1963. Among the features open to visitors are the round keep, the reconstructed main hall and various furnished rooms evoking the families who once lived there.
