The lords of Brohl, and later the Braunsberg and Bourscheidt families, shaped the estate before it passed through various uses in the 19th and 20th centuries, including a spa house and a monastery. The Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein restored the property from 1985 onward, and it later became a hotel.
