Burg Eltz stands in Wierschem (Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Eltz Castle rises on a rocky spur nearly encircled by the Elzbach river, between Koblenz and Trier. Founded in the early 12th century, it has belonged to the same family, the Eltz, for more than eight hundred years, and members of that family still live there today. Its distinctive feature is that it is a Ganerbenburg, a castle shared among several branches of one family, which explains the cluster of separate residential towers around a shared courtyard. Unlike many castles along the Rhine, it was never destroyed in warfare.
