To make a day of it

Burg Metternich stands in Beilstein (Landkreis Cochem-Zell), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Metternich Castle overlooks the village of Beilstein from a rocky spur above the Moselle river, in Rhineland-Palatinate. First recorded in 1268, this medieval ruin belonged for generations to the von Winneburg family before passing to the Metternich family, who gave it its present name. French troops destroyed it in 1689 during the Nine Years' War, and it was never rebuilt. Visitors today can explore the extensive remains of former dwellings and climb the 25-metre pentagonal keep, now used as a viewing tower.
