Neuscharfeneck Castle is a ruined stronghold rising above the Palatine Forest, between Ramberg and Dernbach in Rhineland-Palatinate. The fourth-largest castle complex in the Palatinate, it is known above all for its shield wall, the heaviest in the region at 58 metres long and 12 metres thick. The site can only be reached on foot via forest tracks, and visitors find Romanesque remains, a partly preserved gateway with its flanking tower, and rock-cut cisterns dating back to the 13th century.
