To make a day of it
Burg Meistersel stands in Ramberg (Landkreis Südliche Weinstraße), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 10th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Meistersel stands in ruins on a rocky outcrop above the Modenbach valley, near the Drei Buchen pass between Ramberg and Edenkoben. Likely founded in the 11th century, it ranks among the oldest fortifications in the Palatinate and probably served as an outpost guarding the nearby imperial castle of Trifels. Long overgrown and closed for years during restoration work, the site now reveals three distinct sections, the outer works, the lower castle and the upper castle, linked by a metal footbridge and a stairway cut into the rock. A rare Gothic window with four lancets, a feature otherwise found mainly in Alsace, survives among the ruins.
