To make a day of it
Burg Lahneck stands in Oberlahnstein (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Lahneck Castle stands on a rocky spur above the confluence of the Lahn and the Rhine, facing Stolzenfels Castle near Oberlahnstein. Built in the 13th century by the Archbishop of Mainz to guard this stretch of territory, it kept the symmetrical rectangular layout typical of late Hohenstaufen-era strongholds, along with a pentagonal keep, an unusual shape among castle towers. Left in ruins after the conflicts of the 17th and 18th centuries, it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style from the mid-19th century onward and has remained in the hands of the same family for over a hundred years.
