Burg Kessenich stands at the northern edge of the Euskirchen district that bears its name, right by the Erft river. It is a two part moated castle, first documented in 1339 under Otto von Kessenic. The building was reshaped several times, notably in the 1570s and again in the 1630s, under owners from the von Binsfeld and later Waldbott von Bassenheim families. Since 1884 it has belonged to the Arnolds family, who still own it today.
