Schloss Bollheim stands in Zülpich (Kreis Euskirchen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Bollheim no longer stands: it was a noble residence once located in Oberelvenich, a district of Zülpich, set in the marshy meadows of the Rotbach stream, which earned it the name Sumpfburg. First mentioned in 1067 as an estate handed to the St. Georg chapter in Cologne, and recorded as a fortified site in 1331, it passed through several noble families, including the von Vlatten, the counts of Blankenheim and the von Hompesch, before being rebuilt as a baroque schloss from 1682 onward. Bought in 1843 by the Duke of Arenberg, the main building was torn down between 1882 and 1885, reportedly due to structural decay. Only the farm outbuildings and small gatehouses remain, occupied since 1982 by an organic Demeter farm.
What to know
- The schloss itself has been gone since the 1880s, only former farm buildings remain.
- The site today is occupied by an active organic farm, which limits access to what is essentially a working property.
- No visiting hours or admission fees exist, as this is not a monument open to the public.
- The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in North Rhine-Westphalia, referring to the surviving remains.
- The location, in Oberelvenich near Zülpich, lies in a rural wetland area with no tourist infrastructure.
