Burg Mülheim stands in Zülpich (Kreis Euskirchen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Mülheim Castle is a former moated castle standing at the edge of the village of Mülheim, a district of Zülpich, beside the Rotbach stream. What can be seen today is a large four-sided farm courtyard, entirely rebuilt after a fire in 1863, rather than the original medieval structure. The estate operates as a working farm with a shop selling its own produce, making it more of a place one passes through than a monument set up for visitors. Its history traces back to land owned by Prüm Abbey, later passing to the Electorate of Cologne.
What to know
- The site today is a private working farm with a farm shop, not a monument set up for visiting.
- The buildings seen today date from a rebuilding carried out after the fire of 1863, not from the Middle Ages.
- The moat that once surrounded the Wasserburg is no longer visible today.
- The site lies at the edge of the village of Mülheim, a district of Zülpich, beside the Rotbach stream.
- No visiting hours are attached to the site, so any visit is limited to viewing the courtyard from outside.
