Burg Homberg stands on the Schlossberg overlooking the town of Homberg (Ohm), beside the river Ohm in the Vogelsbergkreis. First recorded in 1065 as royal property, it later served as a Hessian administrative seat before being largely destroyed in 1646, near the end of the Thirty Years' War.
