Burg Schwarzenfels rises at 427 metres above the village of Schwarzenfels, in the municipality of Sinntal. Built of the dark dolerite stone that gave it its name, this medieval ruin still shows substantial stretches of wall along with a 25 metre keep, restored with a modern staircase and a glass and metal viewing platform. Visitors can also see the large stable building from 1557 and an ornate portal dated 1621, a reminder of the period when the fortress was converted into a residence.
