To make a day of it

Burg Frauenberg (Hessen) stands in Ebsdorfergrund (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf), in Hesse, Germany. Recorded dating: 13th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Frauenberg is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle set on a basalt cone in the Lahnberge, 370 metres above sea level, overlooking the Ebsdorfer Grund and the Amöneburg basin. Built around 1250 on the orders of Duchess Sophie of Brabant to protect Marburg and watch over the Langen Hessen route, it had already lost its strategic role by the mid 15th century. What remains today are fragments of the walls, including a seven metre high inner ring wall, along with traces of the surrounding ditches, and no certain picture of the original layout can be drawn.
