Burg Mellnau stands in ruins on a hilltop above the village of Mellnau, part of the town of Wetter. First recorded in 1263 as Elenhouch, it was likely built around 1248 by the Archbishop of Mainz to protect the Wetter estate. Much of the encircling wall survives today, along with remains of the hall, and the round 14th-century keep, now used as a viewing tower.
